Breaking News!
Are my eyes alright,
or is it my ears?
I ask myself.
Was I watching the news,
or an advertisement?
I've already forgotten.
A few scenes called “news,”
followed by a long commercial break.
It feels like watching the world
through a train window,
one station changing into another
every few moments.
Here, then gone.
And like the hawkers at railway stations,
the presenters here keep selling things too,
“Presented by so-and-so,
courtesy of so-and-so.”
Only the news itself
seems to have disappeared.
Like some new kind of air,
now being sold to save you
from your electricity bill.
Once, news was information.
Today, it is a weapon.
A weapon with a shape,
a price according to who holds it,
and enough entertainment
to keep us watching.
Is news slowly becoming
an emotion?
Because when emotion takes over,
logic tends to disappear.
Is news becoming the same?
I never knew news
could come in so many different forms
until I watched the news theatre.
And the show goes on.
Still going.
Let it.
We can always change the channel.
